Silent Hill - Blind Nurses.

The horror film 'Silent Hill' is something that came to mind whilst I was searching for not particularly scary, but more disturbing imagery and sources that I could use as inspiration for my word Macabre. I thought of Silent Hill because of its storyline and a certain scene in the film, were this is a group of blind nurses in a abandoned school but they are blocking a pathway the main character needs to get to. The main character eventually gets past by distracting the nurses, but throughout the scene you can't help but feel scared, creeped out and tense because of the situation. In regards of make-up I feel that I could create a mask like make-up look symbolising the bandaged faces of the nuns. Although this make-up look probably wouldn't be ideal for everyday wear, I could imagine it being re created for a fashion show for Alexander McQueen etc.

Film Summary (IMDb)

After the continuous sleep walking episodes of Sharon, the young daughter of Rose Da Silva, the decision is made to take Sharon to the place only mentioned in her restless dreams- Silent Hill. However, the road to Silent Hill is anything but easy to access, and Rose creates a high speed chase between herself and a police officer only to end in a crash for them both. When she wakes up, Sharon has disappeared and Rose is at the entrance to the deserted, dream-like town of Silent Hill. As Rose begins the search for her daughter, she does not realize the terror and mystery surrounding her. Rose is led on a blind search for her beloved daughter, finding herself getting more and more entwined into disturbing past of
Silent Hill.

The above images of the nurses, appear to look very disturbing and realistic as the body and face is covered in make-up that makes the skin and face look abnormal but still human; this is why I think it is a good example of something 'Macabre'. To re-create a less extreme version of this movie make-up and making it more of a fashion/creative shoot make-up I think I would remove the prosthetic make-up and add ons completely. To make it more fashion friendly I would also use dark, vibrant colours around the eyes blocking the lashes, brows and lid out making it appear flat and then applying fake veins and blood underneath the eye area making the eyes appear beautiful far away but creepy up close.
